M@SS - Movies @ St Stephen's

Next film: Saturday 31st May, 6pm

What is M@SS?

We watch a movie together and then have a discussion about any aspect we find interesting: from the quality of scene design to the film’s underlying philosophy. We’re a friendly bunch, interested in discussing each other’s views about the movie we’ve just watched.

We usually have some food to sustain the chat. It can be a long evening, when the film is 90-120 mins, you can expect to spend another hour thrashing it out between us.

We aim to meet about 4 times each year. The movies will cover a diverse range of styles and topics. We’re interested in chatting through new movies, classics and we’re interested in suggestions.

Our ethos

Our film club is open to anyone, whether, like us, you think that Jesus is the King or have never heard of him.

We watch films and then discuss them: the good parts, the naff parts and the in between. Our discussion will range widely, from why we disliked a character through to how the film makes us feel and how it challenges our ideas.

We believe that all humans are made in the image of God. Whilst we won’t always agree, we will treat each other with respect, whatever our background or beliefs. We want to get to know each other’s views, stories and film criticism panache.

Note: Some of the movies will deal with adult subjects. Its always sensible to have a look at a review of the movie in advance – Common Sense Media is a useful resource. Children, teens and adults are all welcome to our movies, though we recommend that people only attend who are over the BBFC age rating. If you have questions about whether a film is appropriate for you and/or your children, please do speak to Ross or Richard.
